You'll find the and Outback Heritage Centre at Longreach in central west Queensland, 1,178-Kilometres northwest of Brisbane and 687-Kilometres west of Rockhampton.

Opened in 1988 the Stockman's Hall of Fame is housed in a stone, timber and corrugated iron structure that has welcomed more than a million visitors and provided each of them with an outstanding insight into the outback way of life and its rich history.

Inside five themed galleries tell the story of early explorers and pioneers, stockmen & station hands, pastoralists and the aboriginal people through an amazing array of artefacts, photographs, touch screens and audio-visual displays.

The idea for a Stockman's Hall of Fame was first floated in 1974 and was supported by the legendary RM Williams who, along with others, coordinated the fundraising necessary to bring the dream to fruition.

Additional funds allocated by State and Federal Bicentennial programs allowed construction to get underway. Completed in 1987 the Centre was opened in the Bicentennial year by Her Majesty the Queen on 29th April 1988.

The Heritage Centre experience is supplemented by two daily live shows, the Australian Stockman's Experience and The Stockman's Night Out.

The Stockman's Experience showcases stockmen, stock horses, working dogs, sheep and cattle in a humorous and very entertaining look at life in the outback. This is seriously one of the most entertaining shows of its type I've ever seen. It runs from Saturday to Thursday commencing at 11 AM from 8th April 2020 through to October. Tickets start from $30 and are available on-line.

The Stockman's Night Out is a dinner show that uses demonstrations of great horsemanship and traditional skills to pay tribute to stockmen past and present.

It's excellent entertainment served up with a gourmet outback BBQ buffet. The Stockman's Night Out runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights commencing at 6 PM from 14th April 2020 through to October. Ticket prices start at $75.

Cost of entry to the museum only costs $35.

The Full Deal – Entry to the Hall of Fame, the Stockman's Experience and the Stockman's Night Out costs from $130.

See the website www.outbackheritage.com.au to confirm start and end dates, additional packages, availability, cost and on-line bookings.
