Australian Shakespeare Company have come a long way since life began for them as 'Shakespeare Under the Stars' in 1987, under the direction of Glenn Elston who pioneered the experience of fully immersive outdoor theatre in Australia. It has since developed into Australia's largest independent theatre company with many award-winning annual outdoor productions now on offer for your entertainment. Although best known for performances in parks and gardens to which I've been, the Australian Shakespeare Company has also created and continues to create extraordinary productions performed at a range of locations. There's an absolute full calendar of events coming your way for 2025, so be sure to follow them on social media or subscribe to stay updated if you love theatre.

The best way to introduce the love of theatre to the young can start during these school holidays as there's family theatre that'll be leaving the premises soon, so get booking for shows for both adults and kids before you miss out. See the website for full details, or follow the given link to get tickets for Melbourne shows.

  • Now to 19 Jan - Alice in Wonderland - The Capitol
  • Now to 25 Jan - The Merry Wives of Windsor - Royal Botanic Gardens
  • Now to 25 Jan - The Wind in the Willows - Royal Botanic Gardens
  • Now to 25 Jan - Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies - Ripponlea House and Gardens

  • Past the school holidays, there are many music and theatre events kicking off with Macbeth at the Royal Botanic Gardens at the pointy end of January on the 31st and continuing till 28 Feb. Come February, you have We May Never Meet Again - the music of Amy Winehouse on 2 & 9 Feb only; The Burt Bacharach Songbook - In Concert for 14 Feb only; The Piano Men - The Songs of Elton John and Billy Joel on 16 Feb only; and Mozart by Moonlight gracing the Royal Botanic Gardens yet again on 1 March 2025 only. If Mozart by Moonlight is any indication with most of its tickets already sold and a mere 29 seats left at this point, I'd check in on all shows of interest and start booking early and let these seasoned performers take you on a journey.
