Phillip Island MOTOGP Action
Tickets are selling fast for the 2017 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix where the cream of the crop, the world's top 23 MOTOGP riders will hurtle around the Phillip Island Grand Prix track at death defying speeds in search of a podium finish at this, one of motorsports greatest events.
Jorge Lorenzo holds the current lap record at Phillip Island and will no doubt be one of the front runners at the 2017 event.
The Phillip Island track dates back to 1928 and was improved and upgraded in 1956 and again in 1997 from which time it has hosted the annual Grand Prix event.
Certainly one of the most picturesque racetracks in the world it's also renowned as one of the fastest and, as well as the Australian Grand Prix, also hosts an annual leg of the World Superbike Series.
Riding motorcycles capable of more than 300 KPH top riders will average in excess of 160 KPH throughout the exhausting event and lose about 2-Litres of perspiration in that time.
It doesn't get much closer than this when your averaging speeds around 160 KPH.
The current lap record over the 4.445 Km circuit is 1 minute 27.899 seconds set by Jorge Lorenzo in 2013. Now that's flying!
Sadly champion Valentino Rossi will miss this year's event, he's still recovering from a broken leg, but leading the charge in 2017 will be the likes of Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa and Australia's own Jack Miller who'll be hoping to improve on his very impressive recent ride at San Marino.
