Australia's best model exhibition and competition

This Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, The Australian Model Expo returns to Sandown Entertainment Centre for three jam-packed days of awe-inspiring miniature displays, fascinating demonstrations, themed club displays, specialist retailers & associated traders, competitions and more! It's sure to be a fun event for all ages!

Regarded as the biggest model show in Australia, the Model Expo proudly showcases the popular hobby of plastic scale modelling and features over 2000 models from all over the country and the participation of up to 30 esteemed traders and 20 model clubs.

The main attraction of the annual Model Expo is the 'Open Plastic Model Competition', which has over 60 categories, including civil & military aircraft, armoured vehicles, cars & commercial vehicles, dioramas and all kinds of historical & fantasy figures. All are welcome to enter a plastic model - to find out how you can participate in this year's event, click here. This year's competition is expected to attract around 500 models, which will be on display over the three days. Check out some of the 2018 winners here.

In addition to this year's 'Open Plastic Model Competition', eventgoers can also purchase kits, new & secondhand books, hobby tools and artwork from specialist retailers & associated traders. There will also be many opportunities to view modelling demonstrations and themed club displays and also meet representatives from special interest groups.

If you are feeling inspired and want to find out more about plastic scale modelling, you can join one of the junior or intermediate modeller classes or tutorials conducted by experienced modellers.

As in previous years, the three-day expo concludes with the 'Swap and Sell' event (Monday 10th June from 10am). Held on the 1st level in the Members Dining Room, this community event will feature a huge array of kits, so come along and find that elusive kit you have been searching for!

Start planning your visit to the Model Expo 2019! It will give you a unique insight into Australia's exciting world of plastic scale modelling and perhaps inspire you to join the phenomenon!
