The Australian Lions Hearing Dogs Market and Open Day is a great opportunity to see how Australian Lions Hearing Dogs are changing the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people Australia wide. Transforming the lives of hundreds, they provide the hearing impaired with independence, security and confidence, not to mention loyal companions for many years; some of the dogs have even saved lives.
This event falls on Sunday 7 October 2018 at 793 Mount Barker Road, Verdun from 10am to 2pm. Please note that though this is a dog-oriented event, no pet dogs will be permitted on the premises, with the exception of service dogs. Entry is free, as is face painting for the kids, plus a sausage sizzle. Free hearing tests will also be conducted by Australian Hearing.
Feel free to stroll through the new garden and say hello to some alpacas at the petting zoo. A fun-filled family day with market stalls to check out, there's something for everyone to enjoy. There'll be dog demonstrations and kennel tours with an Auslan interpreter. Introduce yourselves to dogs in training as you tour the training facility and have a look at the dog yards, night kennels, enrichment yard and history room. You'll be shown how dogs alert their owner to a doorbell and a smoke alarm.
An Australian Lions Hearing Dog can be any shape or size, as the majority of the dogs are sourced from pounds, shelters and rescue organisations. With the need for services on the rise, Lions could do with any help you can give, as their professionally trained dogs for those in need are given free of charge as a gift from the Lions Clubs of Australia. Head to their website and find out how you can support them.
