Expect fun, full-contact & maybe even a (friendly) fight
With two nail-biting games down and another six to go, the 2013 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup has kicked off to a promising start.

With games played at either Erina Ice Arena or Sydney Ice Arena, from Saturday 29th June to Sunday 14th July, the international competition has and will continue to see the USA Eagles and the Canadian Maples go head to head until one team is crowned champion of this year's games.

With non-stop on the edge of your seat action, this event is a must for both ice hockey devotees and those new to the sport.

The Canadian Maples were the crowd's favourite on the opening night of the competition, and just as well because they put on a great show with the puck in their possession for most of the night

The competition has also proven very popular with families. So fans, don't leave the kids at home. Bring them along and share with them your passion for the sport.

My partner and I went along to the first game on Saturday 29th June, and it was great to see the number of families in attendance. We'll definitely take our soon-to-be little one next year when the teams return for a sixth time.

Following each game, supporters have the opportunity to meet the players of both teams and have merchandise autographed. Although there were plenty of adults getting in on this action on the night we attended, the children present enthusiastically took to this opportunity like ducks to water. It was great to see just how excited and appreciative they were.

Spectators are also encouraged to dress up in support of their favourite team. (Just to be safe, my partner wore a jumper sporting the American flag and a jacket over the top of it displaying the Canadian flag). Talk about having a foot in both camps!

The total cost of both booking and tickets ranges from $12.80 for children and $22.00 for adults. Tickets can be purchased in advance over the Internet at moshtix or at the event venues prior to the games themselves.

Food and drinks are also available to purchase at both venues. Otherwise, spectators may bring their own munchies. Actually, I'm not quite sure this is allowed but we brought our own!

Whatever you do, do remember to dress warmly. Very warmly. You may even bring along a blanket. And don't worry, you wouldn't be the only one.

For more information regarding dates, venues and ticket sales, please see moshtix or the Australian International Ice Hockey Cup website.

This is a once a year event. If you can't make it to every game, do yourself a favour and attend at least one. It really is great fun.
