The AIS is well known as a tourist destination, but it is also the cheapest lap pool in Canberra - if you know what to do.

Like most large swim centres, the AIS offers loyalty cards that can be used for twenty swims. The difference is that the AIS cards have no expiry date, and are therefore much more useful. They are also cheaper - working out at $4.40 per swim. The adult casual entry fee is $6.20.

It is vital to check the Public Swimming Timetable , as the pool is often partly or fully closed to cater for athletes. Swimmers will sometimes see the athletes themselves - or tour groups passing through.

Free parking is available diagonally across the road from the Indoor Stadium. There is a paved avenue to the left of the Sports Visitor Centre (pictured, with the Indoor Stadium in the background), with a sculpture of a swimmer standing near the entrance to the 50m and 25m pools.

Swimming hats must be worn at all times.
