What smells better - the coffee or the burning log?
St George is a rural town in the Balonne Shire just over 500 kms west of Brisbane. It borders the pretty Balonne River which evokes images from the early Australian poets.

I recently enjoyed a delightful breakfast in St George. What made it so memorable? Sitting around a log fire in the beer garden of the Australian Hotel on a chilly Autumn morning. Log fires have that effect, don't they?

The Australian Hotel, located at 96-98 St Georges Terrace, has a proud history. It offers accommodation and all meals seven days a week and has a real country pub ambience, including the three onsite canines, all well trained in welcoming visitors.

Breakfast was tasty and warming, setting us up for another busy day in country Queensland.

The Australian Hotel is within walking distance (0.3km) from the Visitor Information Centre, which is on the same street and worth dropping by for tourist information. This includes advice about a popular tour of a working cotton farm followed by wine tasting and lunch at a local vineyard, on our agenda for next time.

Whether you're just travelling through, or stopping by to throw a line in for Yellowbelly, don't forget that brekky at the Australian Hotel at St George is a great start to the day.

Just another reason to explore rural Queensland ...

I never see St George written about yet it is quite an interesting topic, especially because of its geography and history, so great idea and writing - thanks for your efforts.
