You have probably seen the Qantas advertisement, the one with the young girls sweetly singing, 'I Still Call Australia Home'. These fantastic choir girls have been professionally trained by the or the AGC. These girls sing, dance and really put on a performance with all their heart and soul. They run from every state and levels are based upon the child's age. Each level has a lovely name and these girls are performing internationally as well as all around Australia.

They have performed on the Qantas advertisements as I have mentioned, at the Mother's Day classic, the pyjama Foundation, the G'Day USA with Jessica Mauboy and David Campbell, the Australian Open, Pink Ribbon Day, the Star Event Centre Launch, Carols by Candlelight, Carols in the Domain, Les Miserables movie premiere and even performing 'Down Under' for Ellen DeGeneres when she visited Australia and performing for the Pope.

I didn't know anything about this choir until my niece joined it. The choir offers girls from the ages of 5 years and above a chance to make new friends, enhance their singing and performance skills, be part of a team, perform in concerts interstate and overseas and an amazing opportunity to enhance their confidence and self esteem in a fun and supportive environment. The girls go to their lessons once a week and practice more often in the lead up to any performances. The lovely names of the groups/levels are: Piccolo and Vivo level, Camerata, Allegro level, Canto, Avanti, Bel Canto, Performing choir, Prelude level, Cantissimo and Concert level.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of going to their Winter showcase concert that was held at Hillsong. Hillsong's concert hall really is big and a great place to have a concert in Sydney. You don't even need to travel to the city to get there and there is plenty of parking. I really enjoyed the performance of these girls. I nearly cried when the youngest ones started to sing, it was really so sweet. Both the staff and the children are so passionate about these performances and you can tell that the staff really look after these girls and enhance their skills and keep them motivated.

My favourite number was when they performed, Katy Perry's 'Firework'. It really lit up the room and had everyone swaying in their seats. They also sang Australian songs, folk songs and classic spiritual song such as, 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot'. The massed finale show every child up on stage performing, Queen's, 'Don't Stop Me Now'. Each performance was introduced by either the staff or girls from the highest levels who also are, mentors and peer supports for the younger ones. Everything was so well organised and structured. Whilst in the lobby before and after the performance it was easy to see how well the oldest girls looked after the younger girls. They had girls doing choreographed dance moves and some even doing somersaults across the stage. They also have an annual end of year concert.

They have gorgeous uniforms including a tote bag and jacket and lovely performance outfits that vary with their age and ability. They have been running since 1984 so almost 30 years of experience. They now have 4000 girls learning with them! They have even released CD's, the latest one being: 'Chasing Rainbows' for ABC music. There relationship with Qantas has spanned 15 years. They are also the youth ambassadors for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

I remember being in the school choir and my church choir and these are very fond memories. The sense of pride you feel is really second to none. Whilst you are singing in that moment it's all that you can think of, you are truly in the moment. I really wish I could actually sing well though. But if your child loves to sing but can't no worries the choir believes everyone can sing with the right training and practice. So why not give it a try? It's not cheap but if you can afford it and your daughter enjoys it then why not. For more details please view their website.

If you know a girl who would love to join they have open days and you get a free lesson to see if it is right for them before you sign up. Do they sing in the shower, perform for the family, dance everywhere they go? Then they will love to be a part of the Australian Girls Choir. They will help bring your daughter out if her shell whilst also providing further opportunities to enhance her creative talents on stage. Make your little girl shine, show her what she is worth. She will have a blast! Your daughter will really be inspired. Contact there head office to see if they have a position available. A brochure can also be found on their website along with information, news, about the company and a media gallery. Parents do need to purchase jazz shoes for their daughters to wear. Their maximum class size is 25 girls. They will also have the chance to be awarded Outstanding Potential Awards.

If your child can't commit to the weekly classes or performances they have a sister company called a3 which run fun school holiday workshops. Visit their website for more information.
