If your Australian and homesick, the comfort food that saw us all through our young years is findable in vast US cities like New York.

When you begin dreaming of Tim Tams or Lamingtons, an Aussie Meat Pie or Vegemite you know you are needing a home fix. If its beyond your own ability to recognize the signs, inform your work mates of the symptoms of Aussie homesickness and ask them to follow directions. If heard singing "I'm a happy little Vegemite" or seen listening to Rolf Harris or doing a Peter Allen impersonation, you may interpret this as homesickness and please immediately obtain a jar of Vegemite, some Salada or SAO biscuits or white toast and butter, open the Vegemite jar under the Australians nose and lead them to the kitchen. If you have Lipton tea bags, even better. If its past 5pm, a Fosters lager, VB or Coopers might be needed. If none of this works, just call out "Warnie" and see if you can get any color in their cheeks, if this doesn't work ask if Michael Clarke is the Prime Minister and see if you get a glimmer of a smile.

I know a Fosters or a meat pie may be found at The Australian found at 20 West 38 Street.New York, NY 1001. And for extreme sports withdrawal afflictions, most Australian sporting events may be viewed from here, including the Cricket and Australian Rules. But, as an Australian female, we try not to tell the Australian male subspecies that this may be on, or you may loose them for life.

Eight Mile Creek definitely has Coopers Ale, a good drop of Australian wine (they have some great Australian wines listed) and the Out the Back bar caters to the BBQ set. The menu for dining is what you might call modern Australian Cuisine and looks delicious.

Myers in Australia is a department store. Myers of Keswick in New York is a traditional British gourmet deli that is said to stock everything English and some Australian fare too. Heinz baked beans maybe found here. The Milk Bar is also noted as good for all things Australian.

Some people will even travel to Brooklyn just for a Dubs pie.

The meaning of tuckshop to an Australian is one of childhood lunches. Of Vegemite sandwiches and Samboy chips. The tuckshop is the Australian school canteen.

If Tim Tams or Violet Crumble, vanilla slice or lamingtons are required, the Tuckshop has them. They also stock fantastic Australian pies and all other foods Australian including the quintessential Vegemite. They even have BBQ Shapes. The Tuckshop will deliver, so in a homesickness emergency they may be your first port of call until you can find an Australian bar or eatery.
