Event:
A day of festivity, celebrating all-things-marmalade

Australia's finest marmalades and our champion makers will be celebrated at this year's Australian Festival of Marmalade!

Presented by the National Trust of South Australia, the Australian Festival of Marmalade will be held on Sunday 1 November from 11am to 4pm at Stangate House & Garden, 3 Edgeware Road, Aldgate.

Get the family together and enjoy a beautiful spring day on the grounds of Stangate House & Garden, which will be transformed into a citrus paradise!

Throughout this joyous day of festivity, there will be lots to explore and enjoy.

Highlights include:

  • Artisan Craft Stalls: Peruse a selection of food and stalls with citrus themes around the garden.

  • Presentations on Citrus and Marmalade and Cookery Demonstrations: Find out how to grow citrus with Ian Tolley OAM, plus enjoy cooking demonstrations using a variety of citrus with Culinary Historian Liz Harfull & 'Those Barossa Girls'.

  • Devonshire Tea provided by the CWA: Visit Stangate House for traditional Devonshire teas by the Country Women's Association and view the fantastic display of marmalades entered into this year's competition.

  • Live Music: Live music will be performed by the amazing Royal Australian Navy Band.

  • Public Tastings: The ever-popular tasting table will have award-winning artisan marmalades from this year's competition. There will also be some of Australia's best marmalade available for sale. MC Carole Whitelock will lead proceedings in the marmalade marquee.

  • Announcements of the Australian Marmalade Award winners: See the presentation of the 2020 Australian Marmalade Awards. The esteemed judging panel includes Jane Hasell-McCosh, of Dalemain Estate, Cumbria, in the United Kingdom, founder of the incredibly successful World's Original Marmalade Awards, Stephen Downs, Culinologist at Beerenberg and author Liz Harfull.

This year's judging panel tasted more than 200 marmalades from around Australia and a few from overseas, notwithstanding the restrictions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Awards will be presented Stephen Downs and Liz Harfull, on behalf of Jane Hasell-McCosh, for the best marmalades in the two competition categories in this year's Australian Marmalade Awards: one for home-made marmalade and one for artisan (small scale commercial) producers. Gold and silver award winners of each category will receive certificates and the marmalade champion will receive free entry to the world championship of marmalade at Dalemain, England in March 2021 and may have their winning marmalade produced for sale by South Australia's very own Beerenberg.

All are welcome to enjoy this delicious and delightful day out! Tickets are now on sale and priced as follows:

  • Tickets $10 (general public)

  • Tickets $8 for National Trust members/children under 15
