Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest Classical composers in history, completed his Symphony No. 9 in 1824. According to music critics, it is one of his greatest and most well-known compositions. For those of you who have used earlier editions of Windows, the second movement from this set of works was part of the default music collection. Movement four should also be very familiar and is better known as 'Ode to Joy.'
The Australian Chamber Orchestra is showcasing their repertoire of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 along with other works by Brahms and Messiaen this August at the Sydney Opera House and the City Recital Hall Angel Place.
Having a background in Classical Music, this is one event that I surely don't want to miss. When I was just starting out on piano, 'Ode to Joy' was one of my favourite pieces to play, so this brings back lots of childhood memories. I was always amazed at the talents of Beethoven and his captivating compositions and continue to be so today.
For a music lover, I'm sure there is nothing better than listening to your favourite pieces played by an orchestra live - the atmosphere and experience is just enthralling. For those who aren't that into Classical Music, I think you too will be mesmerised when you hear the orchestra begin playing a familiar tune, so why not give it a go?
