Blush Creative at Level 2, Como Centre, 299 Toorak Rd, South Yarra are hosting the Australian Burlesque Museum's very first exhibition 'ICONS'. This grand opening event will be showcasing the pioneer performers of Australian Burlesque both at home and on international shores. Being a free to attend event (except for the 'talk' on 5 Dec), it leaves it open for everyone to come along to enjoy the history of burlesque. Join Imogen Kelly as she presents a history like no other. This is a talk on The Golden Mile, Australia's home of burlesque; a seething strip of violent clubs running along Darlinghurst road. It's an interesting talk that covers criminal owners, transexual take-overs, police raids, famous murders, stripper riots, drugs, arson and a lot more, from the woman who survived it. A presentation from Dr Lola Montgomery aka Lola the Vamp about completing her PhD in Burlesque (the first such PhD submission on burlesque in the world) which will give you insight into the role of the female burlesque performer in popular culture today.
