Feathers, fans and cocktail glasses take on an alluring charm in the world of burlesque. Celebrate the wild, the brassy and the colourful at the annual Australian Burlesque Festival (ABF) 2011.
The festival will travel the east coast of Australia, with shows in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Hobart. Expect to see theatre, dance, circus acts, cabaret and striptease in a series of shows that often draw the audience into the action. The ABF will showcase the best Australian burlesque talent and will also host international acts.
Visitors can learn the tricks of the trade and then see it all performed in exotic and sensuous experiences. From classic glamour to bawdy bump and grinds, there's something for all tastes.
And if you've ever wanted to learn how to shimmy, flirt and tease your way around a stage, take a Burlesque Festival workshop with an expert performer. Classes will cater to all experience levels. See the website for a time table.
The Sydney show will take place on Friday 27 May at the Red Room (99 on York, 99 York Street) from 8.00pm. General admission tickets are $40 plus booking fee.
The Melbourne show will take place from Thursday 9 June until Sunday 12 June at various locations.
