FOSTER CARERS NEEDED! Searching for volunteers in Melbourne metropolitan and greater Geelong areas.
From 9 weeks of age, pups stay with their foster carer for about 12 months. They are raised as outside dogs and are not required to be with the foster carer for extended periods of time throughout the day.
We manage and cover all food and veterinary expenses. Our foster carers are required to take care of the pup in a safe and caring home, allowing regular exercise and opportunities for them to socialise with people and animals.
Eligibility
To foster one of our pups, you need to:
live in Melbourne metropolitan or greater Geelong areas
be 18 years and over to apply
have a safe and secure backyard which is fenced off from any driveway (suitability assessed upon application)
have a backyard which can be entered from the street, allowing Detector Dog Program staff unescorted access to the pup when required
be able to walk the pup at least once a day
have a car to transport the pup
make yourself available to visit our facility on up to three occasions during the pup’s development for individual and group development sessions
You also need to be willing to socialise the pup. This means going out two to three times each week to various places, such as local schools, playgrounds and shopping centres.
We welcome individuals and families from all backgrounds with various personal and employment responsibilities, including full time and shift work. Foster carers can also have other pets (suitability to be assessed upon application).
If you are going away on holidays, you must leave the pup with us at our facility in Melbourne, Victoria - unless you have approval to take the pup with you. For boarding purposes, you will need to drop off and pick up the pup from our facility.
Fostering a pup is a very rewarding experience, and you can be proud of your valuable contribution to protecting Australia’s border.
We are always on the hunt for foster carer homes: APPLY TODAY!
