Cooroy is located in the northern end of the Sunshine Coast hinterland and approximately twenty-two kilometres west of Noosa Heads. Cooroy got its name from the Cooroy Mountain which was originally named Coorooey; this being an Aboriginal word for possum. As early as 1863 timber-cutters explored the area developing the town's main industry with two operating sawmills. The area then moved into dairy and fruit growing and in 1915 a butter factory was opened.
The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce President, Danielle Taylor, advised that the event will be held on the weekend of 8 and 9 April 2017 with the theme of this year being "Wonderland".

The festival, now well-known attracts artists and spectators from across Australia and overseas. The competition will be focusing on temporary body painting in categories of brush and sponge, airbrush, special effects and face painting along with wearable art and photography, both amateur and professional artists are invited to enter this year.
If you have ever stood and watched an artist at work, it is an awesome sight indeed as he or she transforms the canvas of a human body into an oasis of design and creativity.
The Australian Body Art Festival is a free not-for-profit community event and you can join them in assisting to raise $5,000 to pay for some of the infrastructure for the event such as the hire of large marquees, stage, catwalk and sound and lighting equipment. Donations can be made through their website and start at $10. Each donation awards the recipient with a small gift as a token of the festival.
