Skyworks has always been City of Perth's tradition in celebrating Australia Day but with the development of Elizabeth Quay, some of us might think that it has to be canceled this year. But never fear, the City of Perth's Skyworks 2016 is still in the plan, just with a slight adjustment.

The main venues for the day's entertainment will be Langley Park and South Perth Entertainment Zones--these two will be the same as last year. The one new location will be Ozone Court (corner of Plain Street and Riverside Drive, next to the eastern end of Langley Park) which will host Survival Perth 2016, a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, through music, dance, art and food. Last year, this was hosted in the Supreme Court Gardens which is not available this time around due to upgrades.

From 3-7.30pm on Australia Day, the Ozone Court will be full of entertainment and culture, including Welcome to Country ceremony, Wesley College Dance Group, and performances from the like of John Bennett and The Merindas.

Next door at Langley Park from 3-7.45pm, there will be so much fun and games to be had, that they have to group the area into categories, such as Carnival Land (for amusement park-type rides and games), Animal Kingdom (self-explanatory), Water Playground (be prepared to get wet), Extreme World, and more that can't really fit into any of the above, such as Science Shows and Hawker Markets.

At similar time from 3-7.30pm at South Perth Foreshore there will be various entertainment, games, and rides to be had. All to make sure we have a full afternoon of fun prior to the main menu, which is the Skyworks event.

Come evening from 8-8.30pm, the Howard and Sons Pyrotechnics will deliver our largest annual fireworks display yet. Among others, they plan to have the word "PERTH" spelled out in sky-high sparkles, so don't blink or the moment might pass you by.

As with any event this big, there will be road closures and limited parking, so please read the information carefully, as you might find yourself trapped in a carpark within the "road closure" zone and would have to wait longer before leaving for home.

The public transport will also work extra hard this day carrying all the passengers in and out of the city, except for ferry which has to be grounded that night for obvious reasons. If you do take the bus or train, please be patient when queueing and remember that you're not the only person who's ready to go home. After Skyworks, at 8.30pm, train services will operate from the following locations in the city:
Esplanade Station (Mandurah Line passengers only),
Perth Underground (Joondalup Line passengers only, enter from Murray St Mall; west end),
Perth Station (for Fremantle Line: Platform 7, enter from eastern concourse; for Armadale Line: Platform 5, enter from Wellington St; for Thornlie Line: Platform 4, enter from Wellington St or Eastern Concourse; and for Midland Line: Platform 9, enter from Eastern Concourse).

In South Perth, there will be free shuttle buses taking you to he George Burnett Leisure Centre (GBLC) and the City of South Perth Civic Centre. Both GBLC and the Civic Centre are easily accessible from the Kwinana Freeway and have ample parking facilities, so these arrangements should help both the organisers and the visitors in having a smoother, more pleasant Australia Day.
