What better way to enjoy Australia Day, a celebration of our nation and the communities which constitute it, than to head on down to Ringwood's favourite community meeting place, Ringwood Lake Park .

Bring the family and get outdoors to this beautiful local park to join Maroondah City Council's annual Australia Day festivities.

Family activities run from 10.30am - 1.30pm, including an animal farm, jumping castle, face painting, trackless train and a sausage sizzle to fill hungry bellies.

Bring your own picnic and enjoy live music on the lawn from 11.00am while drinking in the atmosphere of the serene lake and lush bush setting.

Enjoy the park itself, including an extensive children's playground, wide array of native fauna (we even saw a possum Mum and her baby last time we visited) and the Ringwood Lake Circuit Walk.

Arrive earlier to be a part of the formalities of the day. The event will officially commence at 9.30am with a flag-raising ceremony followed by the Maroondah Australia Day Awards presentations and Australian Citizenship Ceremony.

The Australia Day Awards encompass three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year. They celebrate community spirit by "recognis[ing] outstanding contributions to the Maroondah community in by individuals" over the past year, and "an event which best reflects the importance of strong community values and ties".

The Australian Citizenship Ceremony will see Maroondah City Council welcome its newest Australian citizens as they complete the final step in the process to receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship.

Tips for Getting There and Away

Parking is very limited: there is some parking on Maroondah Highway and the Ringwood Lake Carpark (entry on Mt Dandenong Road).

You may wish to consider taking public transport. Ringwood train station is about a ten minute walk and buses run close to the park as well. Telephone 1800 800 007 or visit the Public Transport Victoria website for more information.

Please leave your four-legged friends at home as this is a dog-free event.
