Australia Day under the Gasometer
As the sky darkens, the lights of the Gasometer come to life
If you haven't yet been down to explore the Gasworks hub at Newstead, then consider making a visitation date with family and friends on Sunday 26th January for some Australia day fun, set to start from 10am and running through to the evening. While Gasworks stands alone as its own individual attraction, here are the reasons to visit and celebrate on Australia Day, 2014.
Gasworks Plan for Australia Day JJJ's (that is Triple J's), top 100 will play through the speakers of the Gasometer until 7pm, so if you get to stay until at least dark, you will see the structure come alive at night with the gorgeous colours when the lights change every few minutes.
On the day there will be a pop-up bar, Hatch & Co providing an amazing array of Australian food and drinks for purchase on the day. The food served at the Hatch & Co Restaurant is absolutely fabulous, so I'm sure the food on the day will match the high standard.
Plenty of places offer food and drinks
For little kids and big kids, yes that is us adults who are allowed to go out and play too, there will be lots of entertainment including jumping castles, face painting, competitions such as a throng throwing, prawn peeling, mango eating and prize for best dressed. And by the way, who said you had to be a little kid to get your 'face painted'
Face Painting - "who said face painting was only for kids"
Also planned are some giveaways/competitions and some amazing prizes such as an $800 pair of sunglasses from oki & oro and lots of other exciting prizes from other retailers.
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia, celebrating the the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Sydney Cove, New South Wales, and raising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip. Australia Day Celebrations bring together families and communities through numerous nationally held events and ceremonies. More about Australia Day can be found here.
Stay all day and into the evening to experience the coloured lights
