Australia Day, what does it mean to you? For some it is a barbecue with friends and family and a game of backyard cricket. For others it is an afternoon spent scoffing pumpkin scones, lamingtons and Tim Tams. Whatever you do it is nice to finish the day with a bang, and that bang is to be found at Docklands which is increasingly the place to go to see the best Australia Day Fireworks.

Docklands is doing the day in style with some great events from midday until the fireworks take off at 9.30pm

The Piazza and Main Stage will have Nova DJs Nath and Deano invigorating the crowd from 2.00pm with some great music.

Performances from:

The Voice Australia
Strictly Ballroom the Musical
Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance
Chris Humfrey's Wild Action Wildlife Show
Docklands Stage Program – s v1 – G

NewQuay Promenade will have a special Australia Day market, roving performers, face painting, balloon artists, activities, games and giveaways and an Aussie sausage sizzle raising funds for charity.

The Upper Piazza is a sports zone including abseiling walls, chair-o-plane, circotron and shark slide amongst other great activities.

Harbour Town, Docklands – Outside Novo Shoes

Time: 11.00am–2.00pm

Here families will find a free Australiana interactive animal display and show that includes snakes, lizards, a crocodile, a frog, sugar gliders, an adorable wombat, a kookaburra and a tawny frogmouth.
A specially trained wildlife presenter will run three 20-minute sessions at 11.00am, midday and at 1.00pm.

Docklands Chamber of Commerce have also got behind the day's activities. You will find activities, entertainment, food and music on Victoria Harbour Promenade. There are even ferries available to transport visitors across the harbour. You can view the Alma Doepel restoration and do some of the on-water activities available throughout the day.

Not a bad idea to book in to one of the restaurants, bars or cafés as many have great vantage points for the fireworks display in the evening.
