Many spend Australia Day in the backyard, cooking up a nice BBQ with friends and family followed by a friendly game of backyard cricket.

But in 2014, why not try something different?

And spend Australia Day right on the hub of Sydney Harbour.

Slap on some sunscreen, put on your clobber, and slide on your sandals as you could see many exciting events to be held on Sydney Harbour, in Darling Harbour, and in the Sydney CBD.

Some of the events include;

P & O Cruise Ships

Two of the world's most impressive ships will meet togethert for the day. The Pacific Jewel will dock at Athol Bay between 8:30am and 9am and the Pacific Dawn will dock at Point Piper. Later in the evening, see a firework display from a barge between the two ships at 8:30pm.
The Great Australian Swim

Bear witness to the final leg of the Body Science Great Australian Swim race. 1,000 participants will swim along Australia's East Coast and enter Sydney Harbour from 8:30am.

Feel free to put on your cossies and stroll down to the Sydney Opera House where you can participate in the 2.2 km P & O Cruise swim to Farm Cove. For inexperienced swimmers, plunge into the water with four time Ironman champion Ky Hurst in a 750 metre swim. Children can choose to swim in the 300 metre event alongside some of the best swimmers and sport stars.
Summer Playground in Hyde Park (near Elizabeth Street)

Bring the children along for a day of music, face painting, making colourful artworks, jumping castles, a interactive story time tent with very talented children's story tellers, and many other activities. For more activities, click here .

From 9am, a series of children's concerts will be performed throughout the day including a 9am (and 11am) concert with Blinky Bill, a 9:30am show with Bob The Builder, 11:30am concert with Dorothy The Dinosaur, a 3pm show with The Wiggles, and much more.

Come and welcome our newest Australian families in the Lord Mayor's Citizenship Ceremony at Hyde Park at 10am.

NRMA's BBQ Under The Bridge

Get a bird's eye view of the harbour from 11am- 3pm in Dawes Point Park. A BBQ and entertainment will be hosted by the NRMA Motoring & Services. It's the perfect place to bring a picnic rug and relax as you watch the festivities on the harbour.
The Ferrython

A line up of first fleet ferries will race through the harbour from 11am. Make your way to Circular Quay and cheer on your favourite ferry as they sail to be the first to cross the finish line underneath the harbour bridge.
The Yacht Ballet

Two powerful tug boats will dance with an armada of 10 yachts. All dressed in colour, ribbons, and smoke and dance to the operatic masterpiece of 'The Flower Song' performed by Dame Joan Sutherland. There will be two performances: one at 12:15pm and at 1:30pm.
Tall Ships Parade

Gaze upon a impressive fleet of historic and charter vessels as they sail down the harbour from Bradley's Head to the Harbour Bridge. If you have your own boat, you are allowed to sail alongside the tall ships. Just bear in mind that you must adhere to the 50 metre exclusion zone around each tall ship. The Tall Ship parade will commence from 1pm.
