No word sticks out in the Australian vernacular more so than 'dunny'. That's Aussie for 'toilet', for anyone not yet familiar. And you certainly will be after spending Australia Day 2014 at Aussie World - because that means it's time for the annual Dunny Races! Yes, it's time to run with the toilet, not too it.
Sounds strange, doesn't it? Perhaps that's why we just love it so much. Australia Day at Aussie World always attracts thousands of people looking for family fun, true blue events, entertainment and food.
The hilarious highlight has to be the dunnny races. After the flag raising ceremony and the national anthem, it's toilet time. Corporate teams battle it out, towing portable toilets (complete with someone on the loo) towards the finish line. The winners get a toilet seat trophy - and the title of Dunny Race Champions of the World. Here's a video putting you in loo:
Once the potties are put away there's plenty of other fun to be had without leaving the grounds. There will be a display of vintage cars, caravans, utes and motorcycles from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Their proud owners will be on hand to fill you in on everything you need to know about these roadworthy beauties.
And of course, good old Aussie World and the Ettamogah Pub will be open on the day on their regular hours. The pub opens the doors at 9am, with Bluey's Bar & Grill firing up from 11am. There will also be live music in the afternoon. The theme park itself has more than 30 rides and games including the Plunge, the Redback and the Giant Slide.
It doesn't get much more Aussie than Aussie World on Australia Day. Crikey!
