The National Carillon is a 50 metre high tower located on Aspen Island, on Lake Burley Griffin. Inside there are 55 bells, all weighing between seven kilograms and six tonnes. The bells are rung by a Carillonist who sits at the top of the tower and plays an organ that is attached to the bells below.
On Australia Day, Carillonist Thomas Laue will be playing Australian songs between 12:30pm - 1:15pm. Songs will include Advance Australia Fair, Waltzing Matilda, Kookaburra Sits on the Old Gum Tree and Heal The World, by Michael Jackson. Kids will enjoy listening out for the theme of Wombat Stew! See the National Capital Authority website for details.
