City of Ryde is going strong and celebrating Australia Day in a big way, beginning with an Australia Day Eve movie event. Cinema in the Park: Paper Planes is a free outdoor screening event with fun activities and entertainment from 5.30pm with the movie commencing at sundown at approximately 8pm on Tuesday 25 January 2022. Bookings are essential and bookings will open on 5 Jan 2022. Phone 9952 8222 to book.

Come on down with your picnic rug, bean bag or low chair to Fontenoy Park, Fontenoy Rd, Macquarie Park to watch this gorgeous Australian film. Get in early as the first 1000 people will be given a coupon to receive a free sausage sanga and soft-serve ice-cream (kids only). Limited free popcorn will also be handed out (1 box per family) on entry until stock runs out. There'll also be face painting and inflatable slides and obstacle course. Australia Day kicks off with Aus Day Splash ! Again, free bookings will open on Wed 5 January 2022, so keep all these dates in your diary. You'll be registering here for this free event on Wed 26 Jan 2022 from 9am to 11am AEDT at Ryde Park, Blaxland Rd, Ryde. You score, as each ticket will include a free Aussie classic sausage sandwich, a can of drink plus free ice cream for the kids. However, you snooze you lose, so get in early.

NOTE that there's only a limited amount of free sausages, drinks and ice-cream at each session. Session times are 2 hourly and start at 9am, 11.30am, 2pm and 4.30pm. See here for more details. Australia Day Fireworks on Wed 26 Jan 2022 at 9pm will be happening simultaneously at two different parks.

Ryde Park, Blaxland Rd, Ryde - There are no events at the time of the fireworks, however the community is invited to come down to view the fireworks or watch from the comfort of their own homes.

Meadowbank Park, Constitution Rd, Meadowbank - Again, no events, just the reward of celebrating with the community with light and colour when fireworks blast up into the air. Always a delight for the kids, but do keep in mind, some may be a little scared by the sounds of celebratory fireworks.
