Australia Day events will be held in Lithgow, Wallerawang, Portland, and Rydal throughout the day starting at 9.00am and finishing at 8.30pm. There's something for everyone this Australia Day, so take the opportunity to make a day of it and 'Get out and tour the Lithgow region'.


Wallerawang
Commencing at 10.30am, the Wallerawang/Lidsdale Progress Association is hosting their celebrations at the Wallerawang Bowling Club . The official ceremony starts at 11am with special guest speaker, former Australian International Cricketer, Doug Walters OBE giving his Australia Day Address at 12 noon. Enjoy a BBQ lunch, browse market stalls, the damper cooking competition, raffles, listen to music and lots more its a great way to 'Celebrate what's Great' about being Australian this Australia Day.

Time: 10.30am to 2.30pm

Portland

The Portland Development Association will be hosting its annual Australia Day Street Party in Wolgan Street starting at 11am. This is a town that really enjoys a community celebration. There will be a variety of performances by the Lithgow City Band, Highland Pipe Band and local dance schools. This is a great family day with jumping castles, face painting, local market stalls and shops open on the day.

The Official Australia Day Ceremony will start at 12 noon with the Australia Day address and presentation of Portland's Community Awards.

Time: 11.00am with the Official Ceremony starting at 12 noon.

Rydal Village
For good old fashioned fun, head out to the village of [LINK=http://www.rydal.com.au/
]Rydal[/LINK] this Australia Day. Join in the fun, build your own billy cart, don't forget your helmet and see if your Billy Carts a winner in the Billy Cart Races. Or why not try your hand at gumboot throwing, tug of war or back the favourite in the yabby races. At 5pm don't miss the flag raising ceremony and enjoy a sausage from the sausage sizzle for tea.

Lithgow
With a variety of events throughout the day, there's sure to be something for everyone happening in Lithgow.

Lithgow Regional Markets

Looking for something handmade or home grown, then head on down to the Lithgow Regional Markets in the Cooerwull School Hall. They have a variety of stalls with goods from local artisans and food producers of the Lithgow region.

Lithgow Aquatic Centre
Spend the afternoon cooling off at the Lithgow Aquatic Centre. The kids love the Giant Jumping Pillow, Splash Park for the littlies and Olympic Pool. But, on Australia Day, there will be so much more to keep you and them entertained. The Giant Water Slide and Circus School are sure to be a hit on the day with the kids. Circus artist "Tee "will be teaching a few tricks of the trade for those wishing to learn to juggle, hula hoop, spin plates, flower sticks, balance and Chinese yoyo (diabolo). Or if you're looking for something a little more laid back, there will be craft activities and a bracelet making workshop.

Queen Elizabeth Park
Commencing at 4pm in Queen Elizabeth Park is the official ceremony for the day. Join the Mayor and Australia Day Ambassador, Jose Calarco producer of Descendance, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre for the presentation of the Citizen, Young Citizen and Community Event of the Year. Celebrate with our newest Australian Citizens as they are naturalised. [BREAK]

Don't forget your picnic rug and as the sun goes down, relax in the beautiful surrounds of Queen Elizabeth Park to music by the Fabulous Shapelles , a six piece rock, soul and blues band. Playing a range of music from the 50s to the 80s there'll be plenty of familiar tunes to dance and sing along with.
