Each year, thousands of Canberrans descend on the lawns of Parliament House on the eve of Australia Day to watch the Australian of the Year Awards and the free concert afterwards. In 2016 Jimmy Barnes will be headlining the concert, playing his classic Aussie rock anthems to the large crowd. Also performing on the night will be Samantha Jade and Nathanial from X Factor fame from 2012, as well as the X Factor winner from 2015, Cyrus.

Gates open at 5pm to this family friendly event, so ensure you get settled early to enjoy the evenings entertainment and awards. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own blanket or low chair, however leave glass bottles at home. The live music will begin at 5pm and then at 7pm look to the skies to watch the Air Force Roulettes roar by.

The Australian of the Year Awards will begin at 7pm and will be televised on the ABC. The Australian of the Year awards began in 1960 with one award and now there is also the Young Australian of the Year, Senior of the Year and Australia's Local Hero. The finalists include leaders in human rights, scientists, workers in health, medicine and arts and culture. See more information here .

At the conclusion of the Awards at 9pm, the Australia Live Concert will get Parliament House rocking. Jimmy Barnes will belt out his famous rock tunes such as "Working Class Man", "Khe Sanh" and "River Deep, Mountain High".
Both Samantha Jade and Nathanial from X Factor (2012) will also be taking the stage singing their hits that have made them artists in their own right. X Factor 2015 winner Cyrus will also be a popular addition to the line up, after recently releasing his self titled album in December.

National pride will be in abundance for the Australian of the Year Awards and Concert, so don the Aussie flag and enjoy the evening with the community. It is an opportunity to celebrate everyday Aussies who have contributed greatly to the country and celebrate their achievements.

With such musical talent also on the stage, it will be a night to remember on the lawns of Parliament House.
