The Australiana Pioneer Village is hosting a unique Australia Day Gala Event on Sunday 26th of January, 2014.

The Australiana Pioneer Village is located in the historic township of Wilberforce, one of the 5 Macquarie Towns. Wilberforce is named after William Wilberforce, a British politician, philanthropist and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. He was also a Founding Member of the RSPCA.

The Australiana Pioneer Village opened in 1970 and is located on 27 acres of riverfront picnic grounds on the banks of the Hawkesbury River.

This family attraction showcases the beginning of Australia's rural settlement with original buildings from surrounding areas, including 'Rose Cottage'; the oldest timber slab cottage in Australia standing on its original site.

This small town is preserved and run by a group of dedicated volunteers who dress in costume and invite visitors to explore the town and meet the many talented artisans.

All are welcome to peruse the many buildings, which include a Church, Shearing Shed, Salter's Barn, Railway Goods Shed, Post Office, Police Station, The Quilty Shed and many more which were transported to the site from the late 1960's onwards.

You can also visit the local working blacksmith , professional whip maker and Woodturners ; and enjoy a horse and sulky ride .

There are many Village shops to discover as well. Here you will find unique handmade items, curios, collectables and vintage wares. Plus enjoy Devonshire Tea at The Damper Camp and traditional fare at the Oxboro Inn .

All these regular attractions at The Pioneer Village will be open to the public on Australia Day, Sunday 26th of January, 2014 from 9am to 5pm.
