You beauty it's a long weekend full of possibility
If you want to get rooool Austray'an this Australia Day long weekend, here are five things you can do to get in the spirit. And they're all as easy as donning a flannie (although I wouldn't suggest you do that - because it's too friggin hot!).
The Castle is a great Aussie classic
1. Watch The Castle again
I forgot how wonderful this Aussie classic was until I re-watched it recently. It's filled with so many wonderful catch-cries like 'Tell 'em he's dreaming' and 'ah the serenity'. But you'll probably pick up some new fave lines. The one that stood out for me last watch was 'Dad reckons there's only one show better than Hey Hey It's Saturday, and that's the Best of Hey Hey It's Saturday.' Classic!
They don't make beaches like our's anywhere else in the world so do what that Cancer Council campaign said and slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat... then head to the beach. It's un-Australian not to enjoy the water, the sun and some sand in, well you can imagine where.
Every Australia Day, JJJ counts down the favourite 100 songs of their listeners' votes. Voting is open until January 21. Click here to cast your vote or register your Hottest 100 party. Last year's poll was won by Gotye and Kimbra with Somebody That I Used to Know. Who'll win this year?
4. Have a Game of Cricket It doesn't matter what the location - the beach, the park or the MCG, cricket can be fun for everyone. Just make sure you're all on the same page with the rules. Is it 'tip and run' or 'one hand, one bounce'? Just don't forget the zinc (Mike Hussey style).
5. Have a BBQ No, it's not barbecue or barbeque, it's BBQ or barbie. And you can put anything on it these days - from steaks and sausages, to seafood and chicken, even vegies and tofu. The best thing about an Aussie BBQ is that it's the one time the men do the cooking.
