Trek the Aussie Made Trail at the South West Rail and Heritage Centre

The South West Rail and Heritage Centre, situated in Turner Street in Boyanup, is holding a treasure hunt, 'Trek the Aussie Made Trail'. The challenge is to identify the Australian made items from their collection by solving the clues. The open day on Sunday, January 28 from 10:00am to 2:00pm, will highlight the inventiveness and creativity displayed by Australian countrymen and women.

Twelve exhibits will be featured, with 'cryptic style' clues accompanied by a small photo of the item, and visitors are asked to find each of the exhibits and identify them.


The treasure hunt is a great way to visit each of the buildings and exhibition areas while identifying several Australian made items from the SWRHC collection and railway rolling stock on the site.

The exhibits featured range from well-known to lesser-known Australian inventions and locally hand-made and adaptive items. We all feel great pride in our Australian made goods and the South West Rail and Heritage Centre is no exception.

All entries will go into a draw, with the winner receiving a hamper of goodies contributed by resident groups and relevant to the activities on the site.


All aboard and ready to go


All the resident groups will be in action on the day, with the Boyanup Foundation Blacksmiths sweating it out in their forge, the Preston River Old Machinery Group working away on their restoration of the vintage machinery, the South West Model Railway Group running miniature trains on their layout and of course, the Capel Men's Shed displaying their handiwork.


You never know what you may encounter on the trail as you trek the site in search of clues. The inventiveness and skill of these groups ensure you will discover something unique and interesting at every turn.

The Picnic Van and Sausage Sizzle

Enjoy light refreshments served in the 'Picnic Van', a converted guard's van. Toasted sandwiches, cakes, ice creams, cold drinks, tea and coffee, plus the popular sausage sizzle, should deal with your thirst and hunger pangs, in the 'Aussie' tradition.

Fun for children of all ages

This is a perfect day for children of all ages to experience a safe country setting, while having fun learning about Australian inventions. The younger (and not so young) children will love a ride on the 'parent powered' merry-go-round, made from recycled materials.

For your convenience

Toilet facilities are available, including a toilet suitable for people with a disability. There is plenty of parking, just follow the signs to find your convenient parking spot.
