Aura Restaurant at Singapore's National Gallery

There's no shortage of good food in Singapore but here's a special restaurant with not only excellent food and good service, but something special to look forward to after dinner.
Aura restaurant is on the fifth floor of the National Gallery, a majestic building, just a short walk from City Hall MRT station.
Inside, the decor is impressive with it's sparkling glass, shiny marble and fresh flowers dividing the comfy dining booths.
It's true that you could feed a family of five on what it costs to buy a bottle of wine in Singapore, nevertheless there's no shortage of it to choose from at Aura.
The a la carte menu is comprehensive and tempting but the set menu, at $80Sing, is very good value, and won't send you into a spin of decision making as there's only two decisions to tackle.
Begin by choosing between Foie Gras with Caramelised Apple and Duck Jus or Sunchoke Cream with Beetroot and Hazelnuts. Both are divine.
The primo plate is decided for you; Taglioni with Scampi and Avruga Caviar. Heavenly is one word that springs to mind when I think back to this dish.
Secondi plate choices comprise Beef Sirloin Tagliati with Bone Marrow Salad and Hokkaido Scallops with Porcini and Beetroot. I chose the scallops but managed to sneak a taste of my companion's beef. Both were sublime.
White Chocolate Coulant features as the set dessert although it hadn't escaped my notice that the other desserts, on the general sweets menu, were the same price. Feeling buoyed by having made successful food choices so far, and possibly also by two glasses of fine red wine, I uncharacteristically opted to make a further decision, resulting in an Orange and Ricotta Cheesecake with Pistachio Gelato.
After enjoying coffee (a long macchiato), my companions and I decided to throw caution to the wind and order a cocktail - on the roof. The nice name for the roof of the National Gallery is the 'Sky Lounge' and it's well worth a visit, with or without a cocktail in hand.
Singapore's spectacular night-skyline surrounds you in all it's reflecting glory. It's very popular so it might be best to book a Sky Lounge table when you book for dinner at Aura.
