Not too many things catch my fancy more than a store that offers a gluten free orange and poppy seed cake and an adorable decor.

Rear dining area

Aunt Lil's Bakery, in Chadstone, being a standalone kiosk cafe located right near Toys R Us (a blessing for parents, as much as a curse.) You'll notice it by the the country meets shabby chic style chairs and vintage cans glued to the tables. In short, the place is adorable. One just could not resist.

Alright, maybe it was also the need for caffeine after spending a good twenty five minutes in Toys R Us discussing which My Little Pony would be a wise investment (as I mentioned, blessing if you're exiting Toys R Us, probably not if you're trying to pretend it doesn't exist). But at that time, the location sure was handy.

It is worth noting the coffee is amazing, and the kids have the opportunity to watch the baker as she prepares the giant pretzels for baking. In addition to that there is an impressive array of cakes available, catering for those who can eat wheat and those that can not.

Another reason Aunt Lil's stands out from the crowd is the fact that they have a lot more healthy options than their contemporaries. As well as offering the cakes and pretzels, they have a good selection of muesli and fruit bars and frozen yoghurts (unfortunately, I could not try them, but they looked delicious.)

Drinks wise it has all of your standard cafe fare (coffee, tea, milkshakes, babycinos) and is reasonably priced and sized. The staff were friendly and efficient, which is exactly what you desire and need in a stress labyrinth like Chadstone.

In summation, Aunt Lil's is certainly worth visiting if you're in need of sugar or caffeine to assist your energy levels whilst navigating Chadstone. Also try the olive and tomato pretzel and let me know how you go!
