Spring is almost sprung but before we can get there, we still have a few weeks left of winter. But rather than hibernating, get out and about with some of the remaining events in Perth this winter.
Baby You Can Drive My Car
The four day Targa car rally will be taking place across Perth, with over 30 rally stages and thousands of spectators everywhere from Forrest Place to Toodyay, Whiteman Park and Bullsbrook. With both classic and modern cars, and the first-ever night time stage there will be something to please all car lovers.
When: Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th August

Say it in Rhyme
The launch of the Perth Poetry Festival will bring words of rhythm and rhyme to the streets of Perth. Listen to guest poets, enrol in some of the workshops or if you're feeling brave, head along to one of the open mic sessions and read one of your own poems.

Biggest Book Sale
Now celebrating its 50th year, the Save the Children book fair is the biggest of its kind in Perth, and for five days will see literally tens of thousands of books being snaffled by discerning bibliophiles. Get in early for the biggest range or visit towards the end for the best bargains.
When: Friday 15th August to Wednesday 20th August

Poets and Physics
What does poetry and space have in common? Come along to a free Science Week event at the Perth Library to find out. Award winning poet Bronwyn Lovell will read from her upcoming novel based on the real life mission to colonise Mars, while one of the candidates to live on Mars will have a Q&A session and talk about life, love and death in space.

Build Your Own Rocket
A free event being hosted three evenings in a row, members of the public are invited to join physicist and comedian Josh Richards as he uses the critically-acclaimed computer game Kerbal Space Program to build a rocket and then attempt a moon landing. Perfect for wannabe astronauts and kids of all ages.
When: Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd August, 6pm-6.45pm

St Bart's Fete
St Bartholomew's House mission is to assist the homeless of today and rebuild their lives. To help raise awareness they will be holding their first ever evening fete. There will be plenty of free entertainment including a brass band, carousel, roving circus and stilt walkers. Buy dinner at the food stalls, which include a spit roast and jacket potatoes or have your picture taken in the instant photo booth. Have fun and help a good cause.

Winter Supper Club
Food and entertainment, what more could you ask for. On the last Friday of the month see the Perth Town Hall become a busy food market with a range of foods from Perth's best street vendors. Grab a bite or an entire meal and wash it down with some free, roving music.

Have Fun Running
Whether you are a fitness fanatic, a mum with a jogging pram or an enthusiastic spectator, the Chevon City to Surf for Activ is Perth's biggest sporting event, and one of the largest fun runs in the southern hemisphere. Sign up for the run (4km-42km) or simply support those who do.
