Art Fair
1. Melbourne International Film Festival.
Celebrating 63 years in 2014, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) hosts a feast of cinematic delights from over 50 countries at various CBD locations. In addition to screening the very best in world cinema, a range of red carpet galas, parties and special events are the place to be seen in August. July 31-Aug 17th. Tickets from $15.

2. Melbourne Art Fair
View and purchase quality leading contemporary artwork at the Melbourne Art Fair. Held at the Royal Exhibition Building, from August 13-17th, the fair exhibits paintings, sculpture, photography, installation and multi media art works of over 300 artists represented by over 70 leading national and international galleries. General entry $28 ($22 concession).

3. Melbourne Writers Festival
This 11-day festival features over 350 international and local writers, thinkers, illustrators and performers. The progam of events includes panel discussions, film screenings, workshops, debates, launches, performances, professional development sessions, dedicated children's sessions, and more. Melbourne Writers Festival is held at various locations across Melbourne, from August 21-31st. Free and ticketed events.

4. Melbourne Day
Melbourne turns 179 years young on August 30th. Celebrate Melbourne's birthday from August 20 31st with a range of festivities including a free concert at Federation Square, a Docklands regatta, an Urban Explorer tour around town, discounted tours, free boat rides on Victoria Harbour, and special offers at a range of cafes, restaurants and retailers - Cheers Melbourne!

5. Italian Masterpieces
Italian Masterpieces from Spain's Royal Court, Museo del Prado, presents a selection of paintings and drawings spanning 300 years of Italian art, from the early sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. This Melbourne exclusive exhibition showcases over 100 works comprising 70 paintings and more than 30 drawings, featuring some of the most outstanding works from masters such as Raphael, Titian and Tiepolo. Showing at the National Gallery of Victoria until August 31st. Tickets $26 (Adult), $22.50 (Concession), $10 (Child ).
