Set against the backdrop of 'To Kill A Mockingbird' pages, Atticus Finch Cafe is perched on the corner of Latrobe Terrace, in the boutique suburb of Paddington. It is the perfect oasis for brunch with friends (human or four-legged), or just for a catch-up over coffee.
My friend Katy and I had settled on having a late lunch there as I'd heard it was dog friendly, and close to home. Boy were we not disappointed. We easily found parking directly outside, and were greeted by a gorgeous wooden deck, with built in seating along one wall, decorated with bright and colourful cushions. Nora (the Boston Terrier) received water and a treat on arrival which kept her busy under the table while we enjoyed our lunch.
We had made it to the cafe half an hour before closing, and were relieved when the manager was gracious enough to keep the kitchen open whilst we debated over the menu. We were presented with an abundance of choices, from original all day brekkie choices, to lunch classics like toasties and salads. Eventually, Katy ordered the Bubble and Squeak, whilst I opted for the 'Fancy Mince on Toast,' served with a poached egg and mushrooms.
As I was placing my order I was excited to see that it was one of the few places I have found in Brisbane that do Ginger Lattes, which I have sorely missed from back home.
The food is not cheap, but is reasonable for what you get, and for the quality of service. By the time we had left, having both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we had seen many regular customers and their pooches pop in to say hi, and felt like regulars ourselves.
