If you're planning your next school holiday trip, a weekend family break, or grey nomad destination then take a look at . A recent renovation has given the holiday park a complete transformation. They offer camping and caravan sites as well as family size and single cabins. Located at 381 Atkinson Dam Road, Atkinson Dam, the holiday park is only 45 minutes from Ipswich and just over an hour from Brisbane.

is far enough away from the city lights to give you the feeling of escape but the drive is not too long, so your two and four legged babies can enjoy the wide open spaces before puppy breath and doggy drool becomes an issue in the back seat.

With lots of shady trees and starry night skies, the park is only a two minute walk to Atkinson Dam where swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing and jet skiing are allowed with no need for a permit. See my article on Atkinson Dam for more information.

Well behaved dogs are allowed at the holiday park and must be on a lead at all times. They are welcome to camp and caravan but are not allowed inside the cabins. Our border collie, Magic, loved her morning walks to the dam, running through the park and the water playing ball with her furry friends.

The holiday park has a shop with all the necessities including daily papers, bread, milk, gas, ice and even petrol. The range of items for sale is comprehensive and the prices are very reasonable. There is even a coffee shop, "Café Verah", offering good coffee, a delicious range of cakes and biscuits, ice-creams and slushies and hot and cold food made fresh to order including great value pizzas. They can even put together a BBQ pack for you.

The toilet and shower facilities are clean and spacious with plenty of hot water and a baby's bath in the women's section. The coin operated laundry has new washers and dryers and there is a communal clothesline. Site fees are available on the website.

Other facilities on offer include a camp kitchen, outdoor fire pit, a covered "fireplace lounge", playground, bird aviary, pool, al-fresco dining and BBQ area, games room and a jumping castle in peak holiday season. The jumping castle is weight rated for adults too, so everyone can get in on the fun. The new owners Wendy, Wayne and their son Mick are also planning to introduce outdoor movie screenings.

Overall it's well done to the new owners. gets a paws up and a 'Magic' rating of excellent for fun, friendliness and great value.
