Fine dining in impressive historic building
Inside the former Savings Bank of NSW building in the Sydney CBD is a delightful fine dining establishment, the Athenian Greek Restaurant. From the street, the restaurant is an imposing historic building. The exterior of this building is remarkable to gaze upon.
We chose this restaurant for a family birthday celebration. We began with deliciously moist herb bread, then our mains arrived. Birthday Girl, who was born on Melbourne Cup Day many years ago, chose a delicious dish, Beef Stifado, which is beef pieces marinated in red wine and tomatoes with herbs and spices. She found this dish lip-smackingly good.
Teen Faye ordered his oft-favourite dish, schnitzel. This veal schnitzel dish had a delectable crunchy coating and the meat was very tasty. He had to defend his meal from my fork skewering parts of the schnitzel and carrying it off to my plate.
The dining tables are spacious which was one of the things I loved about this restaurant. It was a table for four and there was room for drinks and food and there wasn't that cramped feeling where one tries not to elbow your dining partner for lack of table space.
