Event:
An astronomically awesome FREE event

In 2016, the inaugural Pingelly Astrofest attracted hundreds of budding astronomers and star enthusiasts from near and far to the scenic rural town of Pingelly, situated in the heart of Western Australia's Central South.

At sundown, they pointed their telescopes to Saturn, Jupiter and the Moon and discovered the many wonders of the night sky.

Following the huge success of the 2016 event, Pingelly Astrofest returns to UWA Farm Ridgefield on Saturday 20th October with a huge line-up of engaging and exciting indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy!

This popular FREE community-based festival is proudly presented by UWA Farm Ridgefield and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and is a special opportunity to celebrate local astronomy and Australian science.

Starting at 4pm, the 2018 Pingelly Astrofest is jam-packed with a diverse range of interactive experiences for all ages:

  • View Scitech Spacedomes and Science Shows

  • Take part in Solar Observing from 5pm

  • Join a Night Sky Tour with expert commentary

  • Uncover Space and Astronomy Information for young and old

  • Listen to an Astronomy presentation by Dr Luke Davies, Project Scientist for the Wide Area VISTA Extragalactic Survey (WAVES)

  • View astrophotography exhibition by renowned astrophotographer Dr John Goldsmith

[the] event was a great way to invite the community to the farm to get involved in science and learn about astronomy, and we are thrilled that so many locals came to enjoy the evening."
