Blast off - Astrid & The Asteroids take off in Brisbane
This six-piece band brings the best type of music that just makes you want to dance. I've seen them play a few different venues, most recently at The Barlow, supporting Big Dead.
Featuring three gorgeous, sexy galactic chicas playing a five-string bass, keys, and performing killer vocals, they are balanced out by three formidable gents playing drums, guitar and trumpet. Recent winners of Arts Queensland's annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship, this band has plans to reach the stratosphere, and beyond. Using the scholarship funds, they will spend time over Christmas in the studio with a view to releasing their debut album around the middle of 2013.
Their live shows consist of a mix of upbeat, fun, pop songs and more reflective tunes. I especially love the track "West End", where the lyrics affectionately mock those that live in West End, with their bare feet, exclusive tastes, penchant for foreign alcohol and organic, soy drinking ways. I guarantee you'll want to dance at one of their gigs.
Upcoming gigs for Astrid & The Asteroids include:
Saturday 10 November at 4:00pm - Brisbane Powerhouse for the 2High Festival
