Hip cafe, happy kids & unlikely location inside Masters
Assembly Espresso, inside Masters, Everton park
As a parent, you know that the combination of a hip cafe, great coffee and a safe play area can be a life-saver - for you and your kids. Tucked inside the Masters at Everton Park, Assembly Espresso is a family friendly winner.
I was served with a genuine smile and my delicious cappuccino lived up to the reputation preceding it. They also make cold-pressed coffee, tea and milkshakes and have a fridge stocked with cold drinks. If you or the kids are hungry there's just a basic menu: biscuits, sandwiches, muffins, banana bread and chocolate slice.
While you savour your quality coffee in this surprisingly peaceful spot, the kids can be playing in the gated playground. Toddlers can happily bash the abacus beads and naughts and crosses, while older kids can lose themselves climbing into the upper levels. There's no barrier (apart from the fence) between cafe and playground, so you can still see and talk to them if you sit nearby.
The cafe isn't cramped, with plenty of spare tables and chairs and a vacant comfy couch when we visited mid-morning. There's room for prams and a high chair available too. There's not much of a view from this cafe (choose between shelves of gardening products or the car park) but at least there's plenty of natural light.
Easily keep an eye on the kids from the comfy couch
The weekday opening hours are handy: 6.30am to 4.00pm (plus 8.00am - 3.00pm on Saturdays and 9.00am to 3.00pm on Sundays.)
After your coffee break, you can pick up a few things for a gardening project for the kids, or walk across the carpark to get your groceries from the supermarket. Or simply come here for the coffee alone.
