Book NOW for this unusual, humorous musical

The Playhouse in the Sydney Opera House will be the stage for the critically acclaimed production of the darkly entertaining, revue-style musical Assassins, which will star actor, singer and showman, David Campbell. It will be on from Thursday 7th June to Sunday, 1st July, 2018.

It is described as "Bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny, Assassins is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written."

It is set in a fairground shooting gallery and tells the story of nine misfit Americans who share one dream to shoot the President of the United States. Meet John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr and more in this darkly comic musical.

You will learn the varied and unusual ways that each of these people have committed (or attempted to commit) the ultimate crime. It is composed by one of America's greatest musical-theatre composers and lyricists, Stephen Sondheim, who also composed the scores for West Side Story, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods. The story is based on the book by John Weidman, and also on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr.

In this multiple Tony Award-winning theatrical tour-de-force, Sondheim's own blend of clever words and beautiful music combines with an all-embracing story of "celebrity culture and violence".

It looks into the disillusionment associated with "patriotic idealism", and in doing so contains some absurd humour and a century of musical "pastiche".

Assassins also explores the motivations behind some of history's most notorious criminals.

The hit 2017 Hayes Theatre Co season received widespread critical acclaim and multiple nominations in last year's Sydney Theatre Awards. Continuing their roles from the Hayes Theatre Co season, David Campbell (Helpmann award winner) appears as Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, alongside Connor Crawford, Hannah Fredericksen, Kate Cole, Bobby Fox, Jason Winston, Rob McDougall, and Justin Smith.

Newcomer, Maxwell Simon summarises his role of The Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald after a sensational debut last year.

With all the hype in the US on guns, this is the perfect time for Assassins to be on, and for you to meet the people who made history simply by pulling a trigger.
