Assaggio Café (meaning 'to taste') is a modern Italian-style café located on Newton Road, Campbelltown. I stopped by on a cold, grey June day, and was immediately taken by the warmth of the red-toned lighting, which created a surprisingly intimate atmosphere without detracting from the minimalist chic of black and chrome counters and table settings.
The coffee is very reasonably priced, as is the biscotti, and a selection of T-Bar teas is also available. For a quick break, Assagio is an excellent place to get a drink and a nibble for under five bucks. Not bad, I reckon.
For those of you who like to linger over drinks a little longer, the prominent fridge display-counter filled with yummy Italian mousses, cakes, tarts, chocolates, and gelati will easily convince you to leave the kids at home with Grandma, and have a dessert or three.
Or you could make a night of it and settle in for dinner. The dining area at Assaggio is partitioned off from the more casual café seating, and has a licensed bar. The menu is what you expect from Italian dining – freshly baked breads, antipasti, pizza, pasta, risottos, warm salads, and soups, all assembled with typical Italian care for food and love of fresh ingredients. The menu is available online here, and includes a helpful glossary of words so that diners know exactly what they're ordering. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also clearly marked, as are children's meals, which have been assembled with thought and an emphasis on healthy options.
Assaggio caters for functions, and provides a banquet menu for groups of 4 adults. Also currently on offer is a free coffee with every desert purchased between 3-5pm, Monday-Friday. Convenient off-street parking is accessible in front and behind the building.
So whether you have lots of time or just a little, Assaggio Café is a great place for quality coffee, dining, and desserts.
