Hearing James Morrison play his trumpet live is an experience that no Australian should miss. Once you've seen him perform live you'll never forget it, assuming you have even an ounce of music appreciation. And if you've seen him play before, you'll find the second time just as great. And the third. And the fourth. Ad infinitum.

James Morrison will be playing in Adelaide for one night only on 13 December 2013. He is the guest of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, appearing with them for a Christmas celebration. The concert, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre, starts at 8 pm

Awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1997 at the tender age of 35, Morrison is right up there with the best of the best, la creme de la creme, internationally. He's played for night club punters since he was 13, for Queen Elizabeth twice, and for Presidents Bush and Clinton at Parliament House in Canberra. He's played more jazz greats than I'd care to mention. including Ray Charles, B.B. King and Dizzy Gillespie.

You don't have to be a jazz afficionado to enjoy Morrison play, especially when it's a Christmas show. You'll hear plenty of old favourites, like Jingle Bells and Rudolph, but not how you usually hear them.

Morrison has the sort of stage presence that puts you completely at ease. Then he blows you away with feats of musicianship that leave you awed. As well as trumpet, he plays trombone, euphonium, flugel horn, tuba and saxophone, Oh, plus double bass and piano, though I doubt we'll hear that at this concert.

My rave is about James Morrison as I haven't heard the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra play live. In a city as cultured as Adelaide, I'm confident that they will more than match the maestro.

If you can't afford the adult prices, from $88 for A reserve to $64 for C reserve, plus any applicable booking fees, do your children a favour and send them along. At only $20, even for A reserve seats, it is an absolute bargain. You can drop them off, enjoy a cheap eat in town and be there to collect them at ten past ten when the concert finishes. They'll rise to the occasion, and always remember their big night without grown-ups

If you can't make this concert, you can find details of upcoming gigs on James Morrison's website . He doesn't get to Adelaide too often. That's a good reason to celebrate Christmas with the ASO, James Morrison and your favourite companions.

Tickets are available through Ticketek .
