Baba Yaga, a figure of Slavic folklore, lives in a house with chicken feet deep in the woods. In some tales, she is a child-eating monster, in others she offers help to those in need. Author Taisia Kitaiskaia created an online advice column called Ask Baba Yaga where people could ask their questions and receive cryptic, always poetic, perhaps sometimes helpful responses in the voice of the old witch.

This audiobook compiles Baba Yaga's advice, brought to life by the talents of the narrator, Zura Johnson. It is sometimes unsettling, and other times funny in an odd, dry way. I happened to put the audiobook on to listen to while working out and looking at myself in the mirror, and by chance the first thing 'Baba Yaga' said after I pressed 'play' was:"All mirrors tell the wrong story . Your cloak-hem has already brushed the ink-pool that mars all of us; the marring of being not as we thought we were. I sit at my mirror daily and make loud laughter, inking my brows & lips with the mar-muck& #8202 ;—& #8202 ;then I step : through the glass to glimpse other sights. You have made a loveliness of your body through the moving of it, and the mirror is a false confidant. Evermore, to be as I am is an honor & a magic"

Thanks for that, Baba Yaga.

Ask Baba Yaga is a beautiful, strange book that is a pleasure to listen to. If you're lucky, you might even find some useful advice in it. It is available from Simon and Schuster Audio as well as from Audible and various other outlets.
