This may be the 6th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship , but its going to be the 1st time one of the world's premier amateur golf tournaments is being staged in Australia at the internationally acclaimed Royal Melbourne Golf Club . Established in 1891, it's Australia's oldest golf club and has hosted prestigious events such as the Presidents Cup (1998, 2011), the World Cup (1970) and the Women's Australian Open ~ since 2012.
This event boasts PGA Tour Winner Hideki Matsuyama (2010, 2011) and teenage phenomenon Guan Tianlang (2012) as past champions, and will be held from the 23rd to the 26th of October, 2014. Up for grabs will be entry into the 2015 Masters Tournament and places in the 2015 Open Championship Qualifying Series. Competition played on the composite course at the Royal Melbourne is going to be fierce between the 120 amateurs from 38 countries who will be striving for this prestigious Masters Tournament berth.

The AAC (they also have a Facebook page ) is conducted in partnership with the Masters Tournament , The R&A and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation . Through this annual gathering of the region's top amateur players and identifying the future heroes of the sport, these organising bodies aim to increase the visibility and popularity of the game of golf.

To tell you a little about these founding partners, The Masters focusses on providing stewardship for the game, especially for amateur players and youth around the world. They work to preserve the integrity of golf, celebrate sportsmanship, applaud champions and to affect people in need positively through philanthropy and give back to the game.

The R&A governs the game of golf worldwide (excludes the US and Mexico) and administers the rules, equipment standards and golf rankings. They support the growth of the game internationally and are involved in the development and management of sustainable golf facilities. They operate with the consent of 149 organisations and on behalf of over 30 million golfers in 135 countries no less. Impressive.

The Asia Pacific Golf Federation (APGC) assist member organisations in the development of golf in their respective countries and works to ensure the Rules of Golf are adhered to, as approved by the R&A and promote golf in partnership with the International Golf Federation. Their head office is right here in Melbourne.
