This children's playground is very much a local hideaway - turn left into the unassuming driveway just before the Fraser Road shops located at West Ashgrove. Even on a hot summer day, the Enchanted Forest Playground is blessed with cool breezes and natural shade, provided by about ten very well established Leopard Trees (the ones with shiny seed pods kids just love to collect).
The best part about this playground is the Enchanted Forest theme. It has a hocus pocus, witchy edge with a giant Good Luck horseshoe, giant witch's cauldron, House of Hex cubbyhouse and giant spider web, complete with evil looking spider.
Wishing bones, and trickery you'd find in a witch's den
Another highlight here is the Storytelling Mushroom, created by Daryl Bellingham in conjunction with Grade 3 Ashgrove State School students in 2006. Children can press the button and sit in a circle of colorful mushrooms to listen to a series of magical fairy tales. Artist Gavan Fenelon also worked with the students to create artworks to illustrate their stories which decorate the playground fence.
Parents might like to stop in next door at Famished on Frasers for their coffee fix or leisurely lunch. This playground would make a perfect Halloween Party location, so why not dress up and head on over for some wicked, ghoulish fun?
