Victoria's Mornington Peninsula is home to Australia's oldest traditional hedge maze. Set on 25 acres of internationally acclaimed gardens and surrounded by over 4000 flowering lavender bushes, the Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens is a real delight.
Get lost in the circular rose maze – the first of its kind in the world – and admire the 1200 different varieties of roses in bloom. Each rose has been specifically chosen for its unique colour and scent.
Laze in the shade of a "Cupresses Macrocarpa" (the first ever trees planted on the property) or sit on a bench in the sun with a good book and a loved one, listen to the birds chirping (there's a lot of them!) and just soak it all in.
Later on, you can make your way to the cafe and garden terrace for a snack and a coffee, and a cheeky visit to the gift shop if you fancy something with a lavender aroma.
Ashcombe is definitely family-friendly. Take the kids on a Gnome Hunt with Mazey Mike, or tiptoe through the bluebells on an Ashcombe Fairy Walk. It's also a great idea for kids' birthday parties.
