The local Artisan Market on High St in Ashburton is back this year at the lovely space at its local Ashburton Community Centre hosted by volunteers from the Ashburton Community Residents Association Inc., and sponsored by the City of Boorondara. These fabulous markets will run three times this year on the following dates:
- 8 July
- 20 September
- 16 December (Christmas Market)
These markets are held in the Copland Room at the Ashburton Community and Library Complex and it is a great location. The community hall will be filled with many local artists and crafters with many new stallholders to chat with this year.
I attended the last market and I have to say the atmosphere was warm and friendly from both the organisers and stallholders. The majority of the stalls are held in the nicely heated/air-conditioned Copland Room which opened up to a small courtyard, which also housed a few outdoor stalls as well as another small room with additional talented stallholders to visit. In the middle of winter, this is a great place to hibernate from the cold, and in contrast, come summer, it will also be a delightful place to stay out of the scorching heat whilst enjoying a spot of retail therapy and supporting the local crafters and finding something truly original. There was plenty of local supporters ready to shop and show their appreciation of handmade goods, creating a vibrant community atmosphere for everyone.
The organisers of the market do a great job each time to provide a variety of stallholders exhibiting and they ensure there are no double ups. Some of the returning regular stallholders are back again such as Jenny Callaghan of Bespoke Quillos who handmakes quilts that turn into pillows (very handy). There are some lovely handmade glassware from Vicki Mimi's store, an array of unique, one of a kind jewellery from Chrisalis and much, much more.
You will certainly find some unique treasures on the day which is what I love about handmade markets.
The event is suitable for people of all ages, and there are plenty of things to see and do including face painting and a balloon twister to entertain the kids while the adults look around.
The market will run on Saturday the 8th of July from 10am – 2pm and it is free entry to wander around and support the handmade market.
