Ear to ear your grin will be, your belly will thank you too
When my teen son and I first decided to explore the arcade across from where we walked, it was like we almost felt pulled by some unseen force.
There was Asal, standing outside his shop, as if he was waiting for us and I mean specifically us. He spoke as if we were long lost friends and no time had passed. He said "Come, I have fresh baklava, Turkish delights, please you must try". That was it …. within minutes we had a white plastic bag with both what he promised, as well as a container of beautiful, fresh roasted nuts that had individual roasted corn kernels throughout. So delicious.
Every fortnight we are back in Pennant Hills for an appointment and every fortnight we can't head home until we have, at the very least, our freshly made baklava from Asal's. The nuts we replenish monthly and the Turkish delight we are slowly savouring … But we are about due for another selection of the so deliciously soft, but not too soft, traditional rosewater, mint and ginger cubes of dusted sweet saccharine delight.
I suggest if you are ever in Pennant Hills for your shop, wander or whatever else, you should consider heading in to see Asal and to ask him what he may have for you to try.
