Carry on into the Forest of Arden
2014 is the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth, which accounts for the very great deal of Shakespeare about this year.
As You Like It is one of Shakespeare's most charming and accessible plays. Written around 1599 it is a pastoral comedy, which is love in all its guises in a rustic setting. It's also possibly his most confusing and most musical, with four songs: Under the Greenwood Tree, Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind, What Shall He Have That Killed the Deer and It was a Lover and his Lass.

The plot is exceedingly convoluted - Orlando loves Rosalind and Rosalind loves Orlando. Rosalind is disguised as Ganymede. Celia loves Oliver. Oliver is searching for Orlando.
Celia is disguised as Aliena. Oliver loves Aliena. Phebe loves Ganymede. Silvius loves Phebe. Touchstone loves Audrey. Audrey loves Touchstone. And it all happens in the Forest of Arden.
As You Like It runs from the 17th until the 31st May at The Black Swan State Theatre Company, Level 1, 182 William Street, Perth at a variety of times and ticket prices from $27.90 to $79.90. Booking may be made online at Ticketek or by ringing 1300 795 012.
