Why should I take my dogs to a grooming salon?

As the months get hotter as we head towards the summer season, maintaining our dogs' grooming routines become increasingly important. This is especially true in Queensland, referred to as Australia's sunshine state - to say the least, our furbabies have to endure some pretty challenging weather conditions during these summer months. Even during cooler months, regular grooming remains essential - grooming isn't just about looking and smelling good, but is also important for your pooch's well-being. Grooming provides opportunities for lumps and bumps, cuts and grazes, fleas or ticks (and the list goes on) to be discovered early to maximise the effectiveness of any treatments given.

Robyn, the current owner of As Slick as a Dog has been involved in showing, grooming, and breeding dogs since the 1970s - Robyn has known this salon and its groomers since it was known as "As Slick as a Dog". Four years ago, on April 1st, 2012, Robyn decided to purchase As Slick as a Dog, because it was a grooming salon she knew and more importantly, a grooming salon that she believes in. As Robyn says, "I am fortunate with the top quality groomers I have 'inherited' and the fabulous work environment we have."

What was your experience of ?

I never thought about taking my pug to a grooming salon before, until I stumbled across a 'strip-out' service targeting double coated breeds - professional strip-outs helps remove matted and/or loose fur, minimises hair breakages and, most importantly, allows your pet to enjoy themselves in the Australian heat, even in summer. From when I first booked Eddy in, to dropping him off, and picking him up, it was completely hassle free on my end. Looking for a groomer at the last-minute was stressful (I only had the very next day available), but Robyn was able to book us in the afternoon before we went. She was also kind enough to accomodate dropping Eddy off 30 minutes before the salon officially opened its doors, and also explained the process to me as it was my first time taking Eddy to a grooming salon. In regards to the actual grooming, I definitely noticed a change in Eddy's coat - he shed heaps less, had noticeably less hair (you could actually see the collar now!), and overall had a much smoother and shinier coat. Plus, he didn't seem fazed about the groom when he was picked up, so it must have been a positive experience for him!

You've convinced me, but where is ?

Their salon, located in Carina, is specially designed for pet grooming and is equipped with first class facilities. Carina is conveniently located just 7km east of the CBD, and is mainly residential in nature. On the same street as the grooming salon, there is a great dog friendly cafe called Backstreet Espresso - it's the perfect place for some bonding time with your pooch before and/or after a trip to As Slick as a Dog. Alternatively, for those waiting in the area while your pooch gets groomed, Backstreet Espresso is the perfect place to relax with a cuppa while your furbaby relaxes in the hands of experienced groomers just down the street!

Does offer any other services other than grooming?

As Slick as a Dog have heaps of products for sale, including flea and tick preventions, shampoo, leads, and collars. There is also a range of premium dog food, in addition to healthy treats for your pooch. Save yourself a trip to the pet shop and get your essentials here instead when you drop your dog off!

How are dogs treated at ?

Like royalty! Every dog has their own area to stay in during their time at As Slick as a Dog. If you're worried about your dog getting into a fight with another canine guest, your pooch is in safe hands, because here at As Slick as a Dog, dogs do not interact with each other during their stay. This is for the safety of all doggy customers that visit. Plus, there is a jar of treats out the front for owners to reward their dogs for, well, getting pampered! It's a hard life for some...
